Public Days

Two days of artist talks, workshops, curator tours, performances and concerts aimed at a broad audience who want to actively participate in co-creating alternative futures. The program spans various sites on the campus along the Spree, including indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces and the urban garden.

• Exhibition “Above the Sea of Air”: An exploration of topical developments of our time (climate change, technological innovation, virtuality) and potential future outcomes, bringing together works from the fields of art, design, architecture, and science, and spanning an indoor exhibition space and an outdoor area (September 20-22)
• “BYCATCH”, a modular and climbable art installation serving as trigger and backdrop for conversations between artists Abie Franklin and Daniel Hölzl with fellow artists and audience (September 20-22)
• Music acts in cooperation with YMusic, including an AI-created score by composer Sara Glojnaric (September 21), and an interactive concert with robots by sound artist Nicola L. Hein (September 22)

Ecotuning Futures with Scent

What will tomorrow smell, feel and look like? Discover scent as a powerful medium to imagine and enhance design in Holitopia’s ecotone—a space where two worlds meet—the festival community and its garden.

This scent workshop explores design in right relationship with the more-than-human, with and through smell. Ecotune into the wonder of the garden via performative scores, speculative and bodying design methods to know, feel and imagine futures at a visceral, sensory level. Learn how to translate stories of mutual flourishing into experiences, objects, and spaces to forge new forms, feelings and dialects for design.

During the workshop, we dive nose-first into the art of scent through a curated bar of botanical essences. Engage in the unique and energising benefits of blending scent without the overwhelm or uncertainty about where to start. Create your own custom botanical fragrance to take home at the end of the workshop.
